Braque du Bourbonnais

NAGDA Field Trial, Wiggins (Colorado), 5th, 6th and 7th of April 2013

Enslish Version

The North American Gun Dog Association held their Annual field trial. This is a 3 day event, the first two days are the preliminaries, you have one run each day per entry, add the scores from the two days and the top 5 team in each Division move on to the finals. Teams came from the East Coast to the West Coast.
As previously mentioned Fletcher pedigree was entered 3 times in the Doubles and only the doubles this year even though we qualified in all Divisions. Our best shot was with our regular partners Dan H. with his Pointer Red. But we had good runs with Whiskey and Pongo as well. At the end of the preliminaries the team Red and Fletcher were in 3rd place overall in a field of 22 teams (44 dogs). Whiskey and Fletcher as well as Pongo and Fletcher did well but only made the middle of the group.
In the final Fletcher found 5 of the 6 birds that we needed and Red found one. A missed shot cost us dearly and we ended up in 3rd place.
By the way, if you think that Red must not be that great of a dog you are wrong. Red won the Open Single Pointing Division and accumulated enough point over the three days to claim the Dog of the Year award.
It is very interesting to see a Bourbonnais run side by side with a Pointer. This is an American pointer really, although it is registered as an English pointer. You can clearly see that he is built lightly and that the head more closely resembles a Bourbonnais than a heavy English pointer. It was great to see Fletcher keep up on some of the sprints for retrieves and get to his birds first.
